Special K Protein Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter: $2.99/Box of 5/CVS

kellogsprotein_chocpb (4)Eating a Special K Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter is like chewing through the end of a pencil, not the bubblegum pink eraser nub, but the wood, nervous about filling in the multiple choice scantron and gnawing on the yellow barrel of a number two pencil. I so rarely draw in pencil, going for the gamble of the mess-up that I have to fix, using awesome Micron black pens. My last solo bar drink n’ doodle day resulted in a few curious, droopy-eyed dudes well into several drinks ahead of me, snooping around my sketchbook asking if I was coloring in a coloring book. Yes, I am so very cool that I perch in front of the taps in the middle of the bar with a bright spotlight right over that stool so I can see my sketchpad better. My brief respite from staring at a computer screen all day, being a Mommy all day, and being in the house all day – sneaking for a quick visit to a nearby bar for a drink, and if I’m brave enough to risk wing sauce blobs on my drawings, a sloppy plate of chicken wings.

It’s very rare that I’ll use a pencil, let alone chew one, but having skipped wings the last time I was at said cheesy sports bar (I could stare blankly at a wall of TVs showing Keno numbers or team score rah-rah numbers, but would rather draw) I returned home to this Special K bar and while I like the peanut butter part of it, it’s got that dry woody mouth-feel that seems too much like the pencils I would chew on during a stressful test. At least drawing for me is my attempt to de-stress. I know a lot of folks who use adult coloring books as a meditative hobby, and doodling’s the same for me. I haven’t have a doodle n’ drink afternoon in awhile now at that bar, having moved a bit further away from it, but my family trip to the beach last week afforded me a few opportunities to drink n’ draw, and eat a few bars too, but no bar can come close to the awesomeness that is eating any kind of salty nut goodie on the beach like pistachios or squishy Cajun boiled peanuts; sandy feet, salty hair, salty fingers and beer? YAAAAYS. But boooo, I’m home now.
