Fiber D’lish Cinnamon Raisin: $1.99/Vitamin Shoppe

fiberlove_cinnamonraisin (3)Having since changed from Fiber Love to Fiber D’lish when absorbed by NuGo, I can only hope that the recipe for Fiber D’lish Cinnamon Raisin stays the same. I’m not surprised that it’s one of their best sellers and highest rated. It is soft with just the right amount of oat-ey texture and plump raisins, and not overpowering w/ the cinnamon. Probably the closest that I’ve found of any bars to approximate the taste of an oatmeal raisin cookie w/o being insanely sweet, and its microwave transformation is transcendent.

In another funkier life, I’d go by DJ D’lish, only b/c it makes me think fondly of Deelite’s “Groove is in the Heart.” At the tender age of 10 at Camp Hollymont, my “tribe” and I were part of a talent show and choose to choreograph a lip synced dance number to that song and I was given Q-Tip’s rap solo. Back to that in a moment – I can only assume that the camp no longer separates campers into Seminoles, Choctaws, and  Iroquois tribes upon arriving to camp for good natured all-girl competition during your 2, 4, or 6 week stay in beautiful Asheville NC. It just doesn’t seem so PC anymore.

We were in Asheville last year for Tom and I’d 10 year anniversary and there’s just something clean and invigorating about just breathing the air there. It’s whimsical and artistic there, but not too deep into hipster and cliched artisinal territory. If I didn’t live here, but remained in the south, I would gladly relocate to Asheville. Soooo, not too long ago Joanna is in the backseat of my car and I refused to power off in the garage until we had finished listening to “Groove is in the Heart” just so she could hear Mommy’s pitiful rapping skills; how on earth I remembered all the words to it, I don’t know. Upon retreating into the house, I insisted that she sit in front of the computer and watch the entire swirly and deliciously retro music video for it. Would I have liked her to show more of her cinnamon spicy side and less of her sweet raisin side and boogie down w/ me? Sure, but she is just as delightful as a Fiber D’lish, and not quite of that age yet where I embarrass her. 4/5

You inspired me to check out the Groove is in the Heart. I liked it so much I added it to my music playlist. Now I’ll think of this blog every time I hear the song.
