Kellogg’s Pastry Crisps Brown Sugar Cinnamon: $3.49/Kroger/Box of 6

kellogpastrycrisp_brownsugarcinnamon (3)Kellogg’s Pastry Crisp Brown Sugar Cinnamon tastes like a Pop Tart of the same flavor but w/o the possible scorched edges, burnt fingers, and hundreds of calories. This wasn’t particularly filling but it tastes so good I don’t care – it makes for a nice morning snack, but I can’t imagine this being an entire breakfast for me.

Breakfast is an obsessively big affair for me and me alone. I get up early enough that the house is dark and quiet and I can get started on some work while everybody else sleeps. I love my monster plate that consists of two Wasa flatbreads smeared in Whole Foods honey roasted peanut butter and then squished on top of that are overly-ripe pieces of banana. Then comes half of an English muffin and an “egg wedge.” I bake, portion, wrap and freeze an egg bake every other week, and it typically consists of spinach, onion, pepper, zucchini, parmesan, and either sausage or bacon, along w/ a sprinkle of Penzey’s “Forward” spice blend. Oh that’s not all … when I finish this ridiculous plate of food, I pour my 1st (of several) cups of coffee and drink it alongside a cup of yogurt topped w/ a mixture of Kashi cereal twigs and multi-grain Cheerios. I’ve been so addicted to this very particularly-OCD breakfast that even when I go away for a night, I oftentimes pack Wasas, browning bananas, and a frozen egg wedge.

I guess it’s no wonder that I crave snack bars around 9 a.m. if I’m eating all of the aforementioned chow around 5:30. I always think of Special K things (other than the plain classic flakes) as diet food, and I can see it being one’s choice for a low-cal snack when possibly staring at office breakroom tables festooned w/ donut boxes. It’s delicious – I’d have no problem picking this over a donut, but when it comes to an actual meal-meal, give me my savory eggs and PBnanawasa. 5/5
